Finally.

Finally. It's the moment you've all been waiting for. You can stop sending us complaints and obnoxious reminders. We are finally going to tell you about Cameroon. But before we begin, we feel a little background information is in order.

First of all, why have we waited ...um...months to get around to doing this? Yes, we are great at procrastinating, but there is a bit more to it. Recently a friend asked us what the most interesting part of our trip was, and it was, without a doubt, our time in Cameroon. Not only was it the most interesting, but it was also the part that taught us the most, stretched us and most enriched us. So how could we just slap up a few pictures and captions and call it done? Now that we have some time on our hands, and unlimited access to a computer, we will do our best to give this part of our journey the effort it is due.

On a side note, leaving Cameroon off the blog until the end has had it's advantages. Though we are glad to have so many readers out there, it kind of takes the wind out of our sails when we meet you and begin to spin our wild(ish) tales of adventures and you say "oh...we already read that on the blog." Talk about anti-climactic. However, stories of Cameroon have been the magic trick up our sleeve. "Oh yeah? Well, I bet you haven't heard this one!" And then there is the credibility we get on the travel scene when we exchange our lists of places visited and casually drop in the name Cameroon. Nobody goes to Cameroon.

The other major reason we are finally getting around to doing this, is that we are meeting Guy in a couple days and rumour has it he is not too happy about the poor reception we have given Cameroon on this blog. You see, Guy looks like this.

(okay he's not that scary sideways, but imagine him right side up. This darn picture will not flip!)

And though I did take karate in grade six, and Scott has a mean thumb-of-war we really don't think we can take him on.

So let us begin.

A few years ago, we met

Guy, (originally from Cameroon, relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, hydro geologist, self proclaimed meatatarian, professional scrabble player, writer, martial arts master, amazing dancer, giver of great parties, incredibly generous, an all around great friend)

and he introduced us to ...

Anja (originally from Germany, relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, who works in a lab growing and killing cancer cells in order to earn her phd and ultimately better serve humanity, adventurous, talented artist, brave enough to play scrabble with Guy, loves to dance, very kind hearted, and an all around great friend)

They decided to get married in Cameroon. It would be Guy's first time home in 6 years, and the first time that Anja would meet Guy's family, not to mention set foot on the continent of Africa. And since we were taking the year off to wander the world, we invited ourselves along. We thought it would be a great part of the world to see, and that it would be a fun wedding to witness. We would bring our camera, a small video camera, stay in the background, observe from the sidelines and who knows, maybe even collect enough footage to make a little film.

Ah... such naivety. It's hard to stay in the background when you are in the centre of attention. Bit of an oxymoron. And then there was the part where we represented Anja's family at the wedding which required a little more than we expected, including last minute surprises like being called on to give marriage advice in a counseling session, and walking down the aisle with the bride and groom. Yes, you heard right. Down the aisle. But let's start this story at the beginning...

Oooh...you've got us hooked now. What happens next???....

Does Scott trip while walking down the aisle? Does Guy get the girl? Does Anja get accepted by her new family?

Tell on!

(ok, so I know the tale already, but it's a good one, so do tell on.)

...I miss scrabble nights.
